ctrl click on the old synth, click on the select all of note (the button with the note surrounded by the dotted square border) and then replace it with the new synth, if you like the old synth not being sustained, just reduce it to one note

It's not a bug, it's an intentional change. We can't keep every old instrument around forever. Slimejime's suggestion is helpful, have you tried it yet?
